What New with the MGIA?
(Updated Fall 2007)

The Midwest Gang Investigators Association is a ten state regional gang investigators association with almost 2000 gang professionals in the criminal justice disciplines of law enforcement, corrections, and probation/parole. The goal of MGIA is to provide its members with information sharing, education, and networking. We also believe that it is our responsibility to provide information and education to prevention/intervention specialists, educators, and citizens within our communities regarding the identification, prevention/intervention, and suppression of gangs.

One of the ways we have been able to assist in this information sharing and education is through our new website. This site has been up and running for almost a year and we are very pleased with its performance. The site is now on its second generation which we believe will continue to provide quality information and networking for our members and the general public. Training opportunities and seminars are posted to assist agencies, schools, and the cities with their gang issues. MGIA has an excellent selection of instructors in a wide variety of gang topics. MGIA is also a member of the National Alliance of Gang Investigators’ Associations. This collaboration with 18 state and regional gang associations provides our members with access to over 20,000 gang professionals throughout North America.

Another way we believe we are effective in our mission is our Annual Gang conference. We will be holding 21st Annual MGIA Gang Conference in Bloomington, Minnesota, May 4-7, 2008. We expect that it will continue to be an excellent opportunity for those involved with all facets of Street Gangs to obtain valuable strategies and problem solving to combat gangs in your area. We all need to realize that gangs have crept into all our communities and we must take the first step in recognizing and identifying the scope and nature of each community’s problem. We know that we need a multi-disciplinary approach to this matter and strive to bring quality programming in our seminars and conferences to achieve this goal.

I believe that MGIA is continuing in its effort to be a leading voice in assisting communities, as well as local, state, and federal agencies/ governments with strategies, information, and pro-active ideas about the gang issues that are present in our cities. We will strive to keep that reputation and quality of service to our members and the general public.

We will keep you informed with the continued progress of our website and the updates and training that is so important in our role to fulfill our mission statement. At any time you have any concerns or comments about the website, membership, or questions concerning gangsor the direction of MGIA, do not hesitate to contact me.

Stay safe and watch over each other,
