MICHIGAN CHAPTER MISSION STATEMENT
  

The MGIA Michigan Chapter was formed through the collaborated efforts of local, County, State and Federal law enforcement and criminal justice professionals who are dedicated to the prevention of gangs and suppression of gang-related activity within the State.

MGIA - Michigan is a non-profit organization that is committed to addressing the States street gang problems through enhanced inter-agency intelligence exchange, legislative activism, citizen awareness, and by providing professional education and training, we play a significant role in creating a safer environment for residents of and visitors of the State of Michigan.

  
MICHIGAN CHAPTER PURPOSE
  

The State of Michigan is threatened by the illegal and violent activities attributed by criminal street gangs, who threaten, terrorize, and commit a multitude of criminal acts against the citizens and visitors of this state. The MGIA – Michigan Chapter is formed in response to the increasing violent street gang activity in Michigan. The purpose of the MGIA – Michigan Chapter is as follows:

  • To promote free exchange of intelligence of information among investigators, with a view towards a more extensive and rapid dissemination and exchange of information concerning gang related incidents, suspects and investigation, with a goal of effectively impacting on the level of gang violence committed by criminal organizations whose actions adversely affect and constitute a clear and present danger to the citizens of the State of Michigan.

  • To encourage and support legislation that would tend to decrease or curb the occurrence of gang related crimes.

  • To assist and aid the judiciary and related agencies in the adjudication of Security Threat group members.

  • To work with law enforcement entities, government agencies and other organizations in an effort to diminish the occurrence of gang related crimes, organized crime and or any illegal activities attributed to Security Threat Groups conducted within the State of Michigan.

  • To develop public awareness as a means of facilitating their safety and education in the prevention of organized Security Threat Group activities in the State of Michigan.

  • To advocate and encourage the development of new techniques that will aid investigators in the identification and arrests of Security Threat Groups and its members that are committing criminal acts.

  • To provide training and awareness in regards to Security Threat Groups, organized criminal street gang tactics, philosophy, and operational procedures of these entities to association members of MGIA and other law enforcement entities.

MICHIGAN CHAPTER INITIATIVE
  

Michigan; will remain committed to bridging the lines of communication between all aspects of law enforcement and providing the most current and reliable information to our membership. In recognizing that any association is only as strong as its membership, MGIA pledges to put its membership first as well, with each and every member held at the highest regard. It is a strong belief of this association that we collectively have an equal voice as we unite in this endeavor to combat against the advancement of street gangs in our communities and the state of Michigan.

By bringing together those that are actively involved in the investigation, prosecution, suppression, intervention and prevention of criminal street gangs, security threat groups, prison gangs and extremist groups and their affiliations, the Association will provide a venue for collaboration and communication across disciplines.

The Association will work in partnership with fellow gang investigators and law enforcement associations throughout the world to develop anti-gang strategies in the areas of gang prevention, gang intervention, gang enforcement, gang suppression, gang member rehabilitation and gang member re-entry into mainstream society.

Through enhanced inter-agency intelligence exchange, legislative activism, citizen awareness, innovative anti-gang operational tactics, and by providing professional education and training, we will play a significant role in creating a safer environment for residents of and visitors to the State of Michigan.

  
MICHIGAN CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

  • Providing expert witnesses
  • Providing guest speakers and instructors
  • Coordinate a list of Gang Specialists Trainers within the State of Michigan
  • Provide input to organizations dealing with prevention and intervention programs
  • Support of national gang prevention and education efforts
